Honeymoon Planning Tips

Jamaica has become one of the most sought after destination wedding and honeymoon spot.  Our beautiful beaches, the lush vegetation, cascading waterfalls and the scenic, unspoiled natural attractions are world renowned.  Thousands of visitors, as well as locals planned their honeymoon on the island but did you know that traditionally the honeymoon was planned by the groom. Today, brides are more involved than ever in the process.

The wedding is for families and friends but the honeymoon is for you. After the glitz and glamour of the wedding day you will need some time to relax, reflect and enjoy each other company.

Before you start on your journey here are a few tips.

1. Create a Honeymoon Budget.

Yes, this is one more thing to add as an expense to your wedding budget. Don’t you just hate it when couples spend millions on a wedding but can’t afford to go off on their honeymoon? This will not happen to you if you follow this step.  Sit and discuss with your fiancé how much money you will spend.

I would also recommend that you make a list of family members or friends who may have frequent flier miles, discounts at hotels, time share, staff discounts, or offers which you may be able to use to offset the cost of your honeymoon.

2. Decide on a location

Whether it’s going on cruise, staying at a local hotel, island hopping, flying to a continent you will need to sit and discuss where you would like to spend your honeymoon and the length of stay with each other. There’s no special leave from work called “Honeymoon vacation “. Check with your manager or supervisor on the how many days you have earned as vacation. Remember you will take some leave before your wedding so the rest can be used for the honeymoon.

3. Make the Booking

Before you book your honey moon resort, cruise, plane ticket you should check the weather, the country’s visitor requirements, and your passport or visa validity.

Do some research on the location’s activities that are offered before you book the location.  I am sure that you will leave the confines of your room for at least an hour to check out what the location offers.  If you love sports, restaurants, bars and tours call ahead and enquire from reservation desk if your favorite activities are offered at the location.

It would also be wise for you to make a deposit for your honeymoon before the wedding to lock in special prices that may only be offered for a limited time

4. Packing

Remember to pack your bags at least a week before the wedding with essentials such as clothes, beauty products, hygienic products, medication, photocopy of your birth certificate , credit cards  small amounts of cash, mobile phones, ID, plane ticket and if possible a copy of the marriage certificate and lingerie

5. Travelling

How will you get to the honeymoon from the reception? Yes, you will need to add this to your wedding plans. Don’t wait until the day before to ask friends or family for a ride to the airport, hotel or port. Be proactive plan ahead so there won’t be any confusion.
